OBJETIVOS DE LA ASOCIACIÓN
Irlanda es famosa en el mundo entero en el arte de la narración oral. Los Seanchaí y los Scéalaí, los tradicionales bardos y narradores, transmitieron las historias antiguas durante generaciones. Hoy, en el siglo XXI, hay un resurgir de este arte antiguo. Fundada en el 2001, Narradores de Irlanda/Aos Scéal Éireann, es una asociación irlandesa sin ánimo de lucro y con carácter benéfico.
Nuestro objetivo es promover la práctica, el estudio y el conocimiento de la narración oral en Irlanda por medio de la preservación de la tradición y el desarrollo de la narración oral como un arte contemporáneo. Aspiramos a fomentar las habilidades narrativas entre grupos de todas las edades y de todos los orígenes culturales. También exploramos nuevos contextos para la narración en lugares públicos, escuelas, centros comunitarios, bibliotecas, centros de atención y prisiones, teatros, centros de arte y en festivales a lo largo de toda la isla de Irlanda.
La narración oral es un arte íntimo e interactivo. Un narrador cuenta desde la memoria, no desde un libro. Un cuento no es solo el equivalente oral de una historia literaria corta. No tiene un texto fijo, sino que es una recreación sin fin a través de la palabra dicha. El oyente forma una parte esencial en el proceso de la narración oral. Para que las historias vivan, necesitan los corazones, las mentes y los oídos de los oyentes. Sin ellos no hay historia.

–Narración amateur y profesional de cuentos.
–Recopilación de historias.
–Narración oral aplicada al aprendizaje temprano, la recolección del folklore irlandés, la salud, etc.
–Inserción social (tradición cuentística de minorías y emigrantes).

¿CUÁL ES EL PERFIL DE LOS MIEMBROS QUE INTEGRAN LA ASOCIACIÓN: NARRADORES PROFESIONALES, NARRADORES ESPORÁDICOS, NARRADORES PRINCIPIANTES, PÚBLICO, INVESTIGADORES…? EN EL CASO DE TRATARSE DE UN PERFIL HETEROGÉNEO ESPECIFICAR DE QUÉ TIPO.
La asociación está abierta a cualquiera interesado en apoyar la actividad y el desarrollo y promoción de la narración oral. En nuestra página web hay una lista de narradores orales profesionales. El directorio dan información sobre su trayectoria, repertorio, disponibilidad para viajar y pertenencia (cuando corresponde) al Comité de investigación nacional de protección a la infancia.
Un desglose a groso modo de nuestros miembros sería:
60% de narradores orales (la mitad de estos a tiempo completo, algunos residen fuera de Irlanda; la otra mitad son narradores comunitarios o contadores amateurs locales).
30% de personas que apoyan nuestro arte pero que no cuentan profesionalmente (algunos son folcloristas académicos).
10% de organizadores de festivales locales o nacionales.
¿TRABAJA EN EL ÁREA DE FORMACIÓN DE NUEVOS NARRADORES? EN CASO AFIRMATIVO, ¿EXISTE ALGUNA ESCUELA DE NARRADORES VINCULADA A LA ASOCIACIÓN?
Mientras no exista una escuela formal en Irlanda, nuestra organización ofrece talleres sobre diferentes aspectos de la narración oral profesional (repertorio, voz, trabajo con niños, trabajo con emigrantes, en asilos, con enfermos de demencia…)
¿ES RESPONSABLE LA ASOCIACIÓN DE LA ORGANIZACIÓN DE ALGÚN FESTIVAL O CICLO DE NARRACIÓN ORAL? ¿CUÁL? ¿EN QUÉ FECHAS SE CELEBRA Y DÓNDE? EXPLICAR BREVEMENTE LAS CARACTERÍSTICAS BÁSICAS QUE DEFINEN AL FESTIVAL O CICLO.
Aparte de las celebraciones locales del Día Mundial de la Narración Oral, nuestra asociación no organiza ningún festival, aunque varios de nuestros miembros participan activamente en el comité de festivales de narración oral de Irlanda. Por ejemplo:
El Festival Internacional de Narración Oral Clear Cape (septiembre).
El Festival de Narración Oral Sneem (noviembre).
Ramelton (noviembre).
Yarn (noviembre).
Varios de estos festivales tienen miembros asociados de SOl, y también asesoran a otros Comités (Slieve Bloom (octubre), Donegal Town) y a festivales de arte y folclore que incluyen narración oral. Si se desea información adicional sobre estos eventos, puede visitarse nuestra web, en la que además se ofrece información sobre muchos grupos locales de narración y clubes activos a lo largo y ancho de Irlanda.

No formalmente, excepto con FEST.
PROYECTOS EN MARCHA ACTUALMENTE
Muchos de nuestros miembros han publicado colecciones de cuentos de los 32 condados de Irlanda (en History Press Ireland).
También es colaborador del DVD Sancturary; The Stories of Asylum Seekers in Ireland: un proyecto multimedia en el que han colaborado muchos narradores en sus idiomas de origen, en Berlín, Roma, Marruecos, Jordania y Gales.
Además, estamos preparando el FEST de 2017.
¿CONSIDERA IMPORTANTE AÑADIR ALGO MÁS?
La narración oral está oficialmente reconocida como Arte Tradicional y puede avalar la financiación de programas específicos del Consejo de las Artes Escénicas de la República de Irlanda del Norte. En el pasado nos han subvencionado la construcción de nuestra página web, talleres y viajes al extranjero.
20 de nuestros narradores profesionales forman parte del programa "Escritores en la escuela", patrocinado por la organización de poesía Irlandesa que corre con la mitad del caché y la mitad de los gastos de desplazamiento (Norte y Sur).
Algunos de nuestros miembros han publicado colecciones de cuentos tradicionales de nuestros condados, con el proyecto de publicaciones de la Colección History Press Ireland, de colecciones de cuentos de 32 condados (Norte y Sur).
Narradores de Irlanda es la única asociación de Irlanda con carácter benéfico (afiliados, oficiales, AGM, etc.).

ORGANIZATION´S OBJECTIVES
Ireland is famed throughout the world for the art of storytelling. The Seanchaí and Scéalaí, the tradition bearers and storytellers, passed the old stories down through the generations.
Today, in the 21st century,there has been a revival of the ancient art. Founded in 2003,storytellers of Ireland/Aos Scéal Éireann is an All-Ireland voluntary organisation withcharitable status.
Our aim is to promote the practice, study and knowledge of oral storytelling in Ireland through the preservation and perpetuation of traditional storytelling and the development of storytelling as a contemporary art. We aim to foster storytelling skills among all age groups, from all cultural backgrounds. We also aim to explore new contexts for storytelling in public places: in schools, community centres and libraries, in care centres and prisons, in theatres, arts centres and at festivals throughout the entire island of Ireland.
Storytelling is an intimate and interactive art. A storyteller tells from memory rather than reading from a book. A tale is not just the spoken equivalent of a literary short story. It has no set text, but is endlessly recreate in the telling. The listener is an essential part of the storytelling process. For stories to live, they need the hearts, minds and ears of listeners. Without the listener there is no story.

Learning, the Irish Folklore collections, Healing etc.), Social Inclusion (story traditions of minorities and migrants) and various other areas.

WHAT IS THE PROFILE OF THE ORGANIZATION´S MEMBERS: PROFESSIONAL STORYTELLERS, AMATEUR STORYTELLERS, BEGINNERS, AUDIENCE, RESEARCHERS, ETC.? IF IT IS A HETEROGENEOUS PROFILE, PLEASE SPECIFY.
The membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the activity and
development of storytelling and advancing its profile. Working storytellers are
listed on our website directory. The Directory information given is Background,
Repertoire, Availability to travel (local, national, international) and adherence
(where applicable) to national Child Protection vetting.
A rough breakdown of membership:
60% working storytellers (half of these are basically full-time professional
tellers (a few resident outside Ireland); the other half would be part-time community or local amateur tellers)
30% non-public tellers but supportive of the art (a few are academic
folklorists).
10% national or local festival or club organisers.
DOES THE ORGANIZATION FORM NEW STORYTELLERS? IF YES, IS THERE A SCHOOL VINCULATED TO YOUR ORGANIZATION?
While there is no formal school in Ireland, our organisation regularly provides workshops relating to many aspects of professional storytelling: repertoire, voice, working with children, working with migrants, working in Elderly Care homes, collecting from patients with dementia, and so on.
DO YOU ORGANIZE ANY FESTIVALS OR STORYTELLING EVENT? NAME IT. DATES. SHORTLY EXPLAIN THE BASIC ASPECTS OF THE FESTIVAL OR EVENT.
Apart from local celebrations of World Storytelling Day (March), our association does not organise any festivals, several of our members are active on the committees of storytelling festivals throughout Ireland. For example: The Cape Clear Island International Storytelling Festival (September); Sneem Storytelling Festival (November); Ramelton (November); Yarn (November). Several of these festivals have associate membership of SoI and we also advise the committees of other festivals - Slieve Bloom (Oct); Donegal Town - and Arts and Folk festivals which include storytelling. Full details of these events appear on our website - along with details of the many local storytelling groups and clubs active throughout Ireland, North and South.
DO YOU COLLABORATE WITH ANY OTHER EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION? WHAT COMMON OBJECTIVES ARE THERE FOR THE COLLABORATION?
Not formally, except through FEST.
WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON NOWADAYS?
Many of our members have published collections of stories from the 32 counties of Ireland (Published by the History Press Ireland).
We also curate the DVD Sanctuary; The Stories of Asylum Seekers in Ireland. This has been presented as a multimedia event with involvement of tellers in their native languages in Berlin, Rome, Morocco, Jordan and Wales. We are preparing to Host the FEST Gathering in Ireland in 2017.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANYTHING?
Storytelling is officially recognised as a Tradition Art and can avail of funding for specific projects from the Arts Councils of the Republic and Northern Ireland – State funding in the past has included the setting up of our website, workshops and on occasion travel abroad. 20 of our professional tellers are on the panel of a 'Writers-in Schools' scheme run by the State-funded Poetry Ireland organisation who will share half the fee with schools and cover mileage costs (South and North).
Several of our working members have had collections of local county folktales published in an ongoing publishing project by the History Press Ireland collection stories of the 32 counties (North and South).
Storytellers of Ireland is the only Irish storytelling association with Charitable Trust status (Membership, officers, AGM etc.).
