ORGANIZATION´S OBJECTIVES

Stichting Storytelling Centre aims to Contribute to the development of storytelling and the increase of the attention for storytelling in the Netherlands.

Description:

The Storytelling Centre (a non governmental organization) was founded in Amsterdam in January 2012. Its initial task was to take over the organization of the expanding International Storytelling Festival Amsterdam. This festival, founded in 2008 by Arjen Barel and Marlies ter Haar, had developed into one of the well acclaimed Storytelling festivals in Europe, presenting both a Dutch and an international program to a still growing audience in Amsterdam. In 2012 Stichting Storytelling Centre was founded to produce the festival and other storytelling activities.

In 2012 the Centre also initialized another Storytelling festival, Zomer vol Verhalen (Summer full of Stories), located on several fortresses in The Netherlands. It also started to organize several expert meetings, p.e. on Storytelling and Empowerment, various summer courses on storytelling and training programs on how to use storytelling in solving conflicts in urban communities. In 2015 Storytelling Centre started a Human Library project in Amsterdam.

Recently the Storytelling Centre founded The International School for Storytelling and Peace (ISSP). This school focuses on the use of storytelling in conflict situations. The school organizes a couple of workshops a year.

Storytelling Centre is involved in several EU programs, amongst which the Alladin project on intergenerational learning through storytelling.

All people involved in the activities of the Storytelling Centre (teachers, storytellers, producers, fundraisers etc.) bring in their own expertise and renew their expertise by being involved. Most of them work on a free-lance base in the various projects. This enables the Centre to work with the right people for the project.
